Vicky Phelan reveals she’s getting sicker after a long week

She’s feeling better now.

Vicky Phelan has revealed that she hasn’t “been well this week” while appearing on RTE radio this morning.

Appearing on Sunday with Miriam, she spoke about her recent trip home to Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny and explained how the long week had taken a toll on her health.

The activist said that while she was home unveiling a portrait of herself, she hadn’t been feeling well as it was and had to “get sick a few times”.

Managing to “muddle” her way through as she didn’t want the event to be cancelled, it was later that night that she had become “quite ill” and has been sick since but is now starting to “come around”.

Speaking about the unveiling, Vicky said: “If we had to put it off again I don’t know when I’d be well enough to go down again so that was the reality. For me, it was very important to do it at home in Mooncoin in front of all my family and friends and the people of Mooncoin.”

Despite initially having some reservations about the portrait, saying she feared it would be “very stuffy, like you’d see the royals, dressed very nicely, sitting with their backs straight and folded hems. And I just thought that’s not me,” Vicky was more than pleased with the finished result.

The buyer of the painting, one of Vicky’s close friends David Brennan, bought the piece for €58,000 and will be donated to Vincent to Heroes Aid Ireland.

Also appearing on the show, he said: “When we saw it, my wife turned to me and said “we have to do whatever we can to make sure that painting comes to Mooncoin because it couldn’t go anywhere else”.”

Vicky added: “David coming along and buying that portrait was an absolute dream come through. It was the absolute perfect scenario to happen.”
