21 Studio Ghibli films are coming to Netflix over the next few months
Y E S.
If you didn't grow up watching Studio Ghibli films, then you didn't live.
Just kidding, you did live, you've just lived a considerably less delightful life than the rest of us.
Thankfully, all of that will soon be remedied because Netflix are adding 21 Studio Ghibli films to their catalogue over the next few months.
We're talking My Neighbour Totoro, we're talking Castle in the Sky, we're talking Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo too.
The absolute dream, tbh.
The films will arrive in batches starting February 1 until the beginning of April.
The first batch will be Castle in the Sky (1986) My Neighbor Totoro (1988) Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989) Only Yesterday (1991) Porco Rosso (1992) Ocean Waves (1993) and Tales from Earthsea (2006).
The second batch, coming March 1, will be Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) Princess Mononoke (1997) My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999) Spirited Away (2001) The Cat Returns (2002) Arrietty (2010) and The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013).
The third batch, coming April 1, will be Pom Poko (1994) Whisper of the Heart (1995) Howl's Moving Castle (2004) Ponyo (2008) From Up on Poppy Hill (2011) The Wind Rises (2013) and When Marnie Was There (2014).
"Studio Ghibli’s animated films are legendary and have enthralled fans around the world for over 35 years," said Netflix.
“We’re excited to make them available in more languages across Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia – so that more people can enjoy this whimsical and wonderful world of animation.”
Studio Ghibli was founded in Japan in 1985 and currently has its headquarters in Tokyo.
They have confirmed that they will be working in two new films in 2020.
