Here are the 7 best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Some very decent rom-coms, horrors and action movies on this evening.

Friday means new cinema movies day.

Festive romantic comedy Last Christmas and racing biopic Le Mans ’66 are vying for your big screen attention and you can check out reviews for them both here.

Otherwise, here is what you can check out on the small screen:

FRIDAY 15 NOVEMBER

The Theory Of Everything – ITV3 – 8pm

Eddie Redmayne is the genius Stephen Hawking and Felicity Jones is his loving partner Jane Wilde in this awards-magnet biopic about one of the greatest minds in human history and the tribulations he and those around him were forced to overcome.

Notting Hill – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Julia Roberts is the biggest actress in the world (both in reality and in this movie), but really she is just a girl, standing in front of a boy (Hugh Grant), asking him to love her. One of THE ultimate rom-coms.

Superbad – W – 10pm

Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and McLovin’ star in this teen comedy about a trio of high school friends who are trying to get booze for an upcoming party. But, this being a teen comedy, literally everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Hostel – Horror Channel – 10.50pm

Three American students go backpacking around Europe and end up being the victim to the violent fantasies of rich business folk. One of the reasons why the word “gore-nography” now exists.

Dredd – Film4 – 11.15pm

Karl Urban is incredible as the ruthlessly violent lawman in this futuristic action thriller, which basically has the same plot as The Raid – good guy kills all the bad guys in a high rise apartment block, one floor at a time – but actually was being made before that movie, so it doesn’t count as cheating.

Miss You Already – RTE One – 11.50pm

Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore are two best friends who try to help each other through a particularly difficult time in each other lives, as one undergoes treatment for breast cancer and the other is trying to get pregnant. You. Will. Cry.

Triple 9 – More4 – 12.30am

Chiwetel Ejifor, Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Kate Winslett, Gal Gadot, Aaron Paul, Woody Harrelson, Norman Reedus and loads more star in this story of a group of criminals and corrupt cops who plan the murder of a police officer to use as a cover while they perform a huge robbery on the opposite side of the city.
