7 movies on the telly tonight that are definitely worth watching

Orlaith Condon

Save yourself from channel skipping.

With hundreds of channels to choose between now, we often end up spending the majority of our evening skipping from one to the other to see if we can find something to watch.

And with the evenings getting darker a little earlier and the temperatures slowly starting to drop, Sunday evenings have returned to being all about time in front of the fire with a good cuppa.

And to save yourself some time and effort in the search for something to watch, we’ve had a look at tonight’s TV guide to see what’s on offer.

Answer? A lot.

Here are just seven movies on the telly tonight.

1. X-Men: Days of Future Past – RTÉ 2, 9.30pm

Plot: In a future ravaged by war, the superhero team makes a desperate last stand against a force of deadly robots. Their only hope is to send Wolverine back in time to the 1970s, to join forces with an earlier version of the X-Men and change the events that started the conflict.

2. Jurassic World – UTV, 8pm

Plot: Decades on from the creation of Jurassic Park, a fully operational attraction filled with genetically engineered dinosaurs has been opened on the island. In need of a new attraction, the company behind the park creates an entirely new species – but it quickly escapes to terrorise the tourists.

3. World War Z – Channel 4, 9pm

Plot: Premiere. A virus sweeps across the globe, turning everyone infected into mindless, ravening zombies. As entire countries fall into chaos, a United Nations investigator sets off on a journey around the world to discover the cause of the pandemic and hopefully find a cure before human civilisation is brought to an end.

4. The Specialist – ITV4, 9pm

Plot: An explosives expert is reluctantly persuaded out of retirement by the charms of a vengeful woman bent on destroying the gang that murdered her parents. He carries out a series of assassinations but finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse when one of his targets hires a former colleague to track him down.

5. xXx – Comedy Central, 9pm

Plot: Extreme sports star Xander Cage finds himself in trouble when his daredevil exploits land him behind bars. However, he is offered an intriguing escape route, courtesy of National Security Agent Augustus Gibbons – who thinks the adrenaline junkie is the perfect man to bring down a gang of international terrorists in Prague.

6. The Bodyguard – Channel 5, 10pm

Plot:  A famous singer subjected to death threats by an obsessive fan is persuaded to hire a former secret service agent as her bodyguard, but neither of them realise the effect they are about to have on each other’s lives.

7. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion – Universal TV, 9pm

Plot: Two lifelong friends are invited to their 10th high-school reunion, and come to realise they have not achieved anything with their lives. They decide to show up the old classmates by trying to pass themselves off as successful businesswomen, but maintaining the deception proves harder than expected.
