Everything you need to know about the Barbie movie – full trailer, cast and music

Clodagh McKeon

The new Barbie movie is set to hit cinemas on July 21st and it’s ready to rule the Summer.

Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie herself and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the Greta Gertwig project is one of the most anticipated films of 2023.

That’s no surprise when you look at the wider cast that includes Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, Dame Helen Mirren and Will Ferrell.

Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir are among the various Kens and Dua Lipa plays a mermaid.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Margot Robbie said Gal Gadot was considered for a Barbie.

She said: “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful.

“But you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

The Barbie creators released a short video teasing the movie in April but the plot was a mystery.

Now, we have the full trailer and are even more excited to watch it because we know the storyline.

The story follows Barbie and Ken as they venture from Barbie Land into the real world.

Greta Gerwig, the three-time Oscar-nominated director and writer of Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women said she loved working on the project.

She said that her partner Noah Baumbach considered directing the movie but she was quick to take over.

At CinemaCon last month she said: “He thought it was very good and was maybe wanting to direct it.

“I said, ‘Step aside.’ There was a point I was so in love with it that I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it.”

Today, Dua Lipa will release her new track from the movie called ‘Dance the Night’.

We know that song is a major track in the Barbie movie but there’ll be other brilliant artists heard too.

In last night’s trailer, we heard other star-studded artists who will be featured on the soundtrack including Nicki Minaj, Lizzo, Charli XCX, Haim, Tame Impala, Dominic Fike, Ice Spice, and even Gosling.
