Bake Off’s Mel has already landed herself a new presenting job

Cassie Delaney

It still makes us well up a little bit but after a week, we’ve had a bit of time to process the news that the Great British Bake Off is going to Channel 4.

In its wake will be presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins who have stated they won’t be heading to Channel 4 with the show.

Rumours have begun circulating that Mel and Sue committed to their departure due to being kept in the dark about the move. A source at The Daily Record said the comic duo felt unhappy that they’d been uninformed about Love Productions plans.

“It was very last minute. Mel and Sue only got a very brief heads-up before it was being reported everywhere and they’re an integral part of the show,” said an insider.

An official statement from the pair does clarify that they both wanted the show to remain within the BBC.

It read: “we made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was. The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15m at its peak. We’ve the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps. We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”

Anyway, as much as we’ll miss them, it won’t be long until we see Mel back on our screens as it has been confirmed she is set to present Let It Shine.

According to Cosmopolitan, in the first press show for the new programme, Mel is spotted alongside Danni Minogue, Martin Kemp, Gary Barlow and fellow presenter Graham Norton.

Great line-up.

The show will travel the country scouting for five male singers to star in a Take That stage show.

It will run for eight weeks and begins early 2017.
