According to Broadcast Now, Ben Frow, Channel 5’s director of programming has yet to reveal whether a deal has been agreed on.
He said that if Big Brother does return, the format of the programme would have to change and that Channel 5 would "not be spending the same amount of money" on it either.
“The ball is in Endemol Shine’s court," he said.
Big Brother's Bit On The Side has already been cancelled ahead of this year's series of the programme.
Big Brother host Emma Willis previously stated that she didn't really know what was going to happen.
She told The Mirror:
“I don’t know, we’re all waiting. I think they’re in negotiations at the minute. I’d hate to see it disappear. “Fingers crossed we have a fantastic summer series and the channel want to keep it.”The last series of Celebrity Big Brother went down particularly well with audiences, as Shane J, otherwise known as drag queen Courtney Act, emerged victorious.
