Bono and Ryan Tubridy are among the “most admired” people in Ireland, apparently

What say you?

Bono and Ryan Tubridy, two of the most low-key and unassuming Irish people to ever exist, are apparently among the “most admired” in the entire country. Good for them!

Per a new study carried out by marketing and sponsorship consultancy firm Onside, Bono, Tubridy and Katie Taylor were the big winners, with each topping their respective designated fields in sport and entertainment.

Taylor, for instance, remains the most admired sports personality in all of Ireland for the sixth year in a row, despite strong performances from Shane Lowry and Rachael Blackmore.

“Katie Taylor has an avid fan base of over 680,000 Irish adults that see her as their number one Irish sports star,” explained founder and CEO of Onside John Trainor.

“Within that base, she could potentially sell out Croke Park twice over with active supporters that will want to see live, the biggest event in women’s boxing history, if staged in Ireland.”

Ryan Tubridy, despite years of criticism as to the size of his pay packet and/or the quality of The Late Late Show, retained top spot in the ‘most admired television or radio personality’ bracket. Not only that, he achieved his highest score in over 10 years.

Marty Morrissey, Ray D’arcy and John Creedon replaced Graham Norton, Marty Whelan and Ian Dempsey in the Top 10 most admired broadcast personalities.

Bono, meanwhile, felled the likes of Dermot Kennedy and Christy Moore in the most admired stakes when it comes to Irish music and entertainment stars. Aslan frontman Christy Dignam moved up 11 spots in the list, placing at joint-fifth alongside Hozier.

“With the largest avid fanbase in the category of almost 370,000 Irish adults, and with 6 in 10 Irish adults in general book readers in Ireland, Bono can expect a strong base of sales for his new book in the Irish market in the run into Christmas,” said Trainor.

Incidentally, if you haven’t seen Bono performing a reworked, intimate version of ‘With or Without You’ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week, it’s really quite good! Check it out below.
