Last night, Liberty and Jake broke up. Or did they?
Love Island has thrown us a rather surprising curveball in the final days of this year’s series as the couple that were pretty much guaranteed a place in the final have called it quits.
Right up until last week, Jake and Liberty were good. Well, they were grand. Then the move night happened, the “rip your clothes off” comment was revealed, and Jake pretty much ignored Liberty for a week before dropping the L-bomb.
Last night, Liberty became very upset after seeing other couples going on their dates and realising that Jake may not be “the one” for her.
Crying to Faye, she said that didn’t want to say anything bad about Jake, but that she wanted to “stay true to myself and leave.”
“I don’t want to stay in the villa with someone that doesn’t like me or love me. I don’t want to be fake to myself and do that,” she said. “I’m not saying anything, I’m not taking anything away from Jake, but I don’t think we’re right for each other.
“I do feel it was reciprocated, but I feel like something’s gone wrong somewhere […] I want him to try. I feel numb.”
The scenes were genuinely difficult to watch as Liberty cried about her relationship and Jake, well, didn’t. The pair had a conversation and it seemed as if they had decided to end things – that was, until, the preview for tonight’s episode.
In a shocking twist of events, Jake and Liberty still! go! on! their! date! tonight! The pair are seen sitting atop a yacht clearly discussing the events that had occurred during the day.
They then return to the villa declaring that they have an announcement to make. Millie looks shocked to hear whatever they say, and that’s all we got.
Naturally, theories concerning what the pair have decided to do are rife. Some think they have opted to leave the villa together and go their separate ways. Others think they’ve left to try and give their relationship a proper go on the outside.
Some even think that they’ve decided to get back together and give that £50k another shot.
That final theory is seemingly encouraged by the fact that in these scenes, Liberty appears to be wearing Jake’s bracelet that he gave her when they first became boyfriend and girlfriend. Liberty had previously taken the bracelet off when she decided the relationship was over.
But is it really Jake’s bracelet on her wrist or is it simply a bobbin? Let’s investigate.

So, what to make of this then? As far as I’m concerned, there are three workable possibilities as to what these images are telling us.
1) Liberty is wearing the bracelet because she and Jake have decided to give it another go
2) Liberty is wearing the bracelet because she still cares for Jake, and even though they have split up they will remain friends, and continue to wear their bracelets in a united front until they are back in the UK
3) Liberty is wearing one or two hair ties
Option three could indeed be the case considering the first screenshots. The bracelet has generally been very loose on Liberty’s wrist in the past, so loose that she lost it in the bathroom a few weeks back.
What’s on Liberty’s wrist in tonight’s preview looks a lot tighter and more secure – meaning that it’s either a hair tie… or the bracelet has been made tighter and more restrictive, just like her relationship with Jake.
Chances are, it’s option two that will come to fruition – the pair will decide they still love each other but can’t be together.
They’ll don their bracelets and leave the villa together, allowing the rest of the couples to fight it out for the 50k, and love, I guess.
