The show kicks off tonight at 8pm.

The TV3 Toy Show may be seen as the poor man’s Late Late Toy Show by many, but producers are doing all they can to set it apart.

Brian Ormond and Maria Walsh take the helm for this year’s Christmas special, which airs a week ahead RTE’s toy extravaganza.

While the format is largely the same, children reviewing this year’s most popular toys peppered with some festive performances.

However, Brian has revealed a twist on this year’s show which definitely does not happen on the Late Late – he has never rehearsed with the kids.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror he revealed that neither he nor Maria have even met the kids yet as they want everything to be as unrehearsed and natural as possible.

He said: “You wouldn’t know what would happen on the night – and I think we are going to enjoy it more than anything.

“You can never be fully prepared for toys and kids so we decided not to meet the children beforehand and go into details about all the toys.

“We’re just going to do it for real, make it happen and see where it goes from there.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen but we didn’t want it all to be too rehearsed as I would hate for one of the children to turn round on camera and say: ‘I told you that earlier’.

“So I think the best way is to go in at the deep end and see how we get on. It should be fun.”

What do you think – is this a good idea or absolute madness? Will you be tuning in?
