All’s fair in love and period dramas with insanely attractive cast members.
Bridgerton could in fact run for eight seasons, according to series creator Chris Van Dusen.
The Netflix and Shondaland series, which dropped onto our screens on Christmas Day, has proven wildly popular among viewers, becoming the streaming service’s fifth most successful original series ever.
Starring Regé-Jean Page, Phoebe Dynevor, Ireland’s own Nicola Coughlan and many more delightful people, the drama tells the story of the Bridgertons, a family who live in high society England, and the trials and tribulations of their love lives.
The show’s first season focuses on young Daphne Bridgerton, a debutant who has just been introduced to society. Young, naive, and determined not to be married off to the town’s most questionable suitor, she forms a relationship with the handsome Duke, a man who has no intention of ever marrying anyone.
And so the story commences, taking viewers on a tale of gossip, whimsey, and sexual discovery. But as it turns out, Daphne isn’t the only one who’s indulging herself in a bit of romance. In fact, each of the characters have got their on story to tell.
The series is based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn, of which there are eight – so yes, we could indeed be getting seven more seasons of Bridgerton.
Series creator Van Dusen told Collider this week that the show could very well be following the books’ format.
“This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings,” he said.
When asked if this meant the show would run for eight season in total, he said: “I would love that. In success, I would love that.”
So would we, Chris. So would we.
Bridgerton is the first Netflix series by Grey’s Anatony’s Shonda Rhimes and Shondaland, and considering it’s reached the No. 1 spot overall in 76 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, and South Africa, we’re sure it won’t be the last.
