One of our favourite shows growing up is coming back.

After originally running from 1997 to 2003, Buffy The Vampire Slayer is set to be returning to our TV screens once again.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the series’ original producers, 20th Century Fox Television, are developing a new take on the series.

Sources said that the series will “be contemporary and build on the mythology of the original”.

It is said to be arriving on TV screens 2019.

Monica Owusu-Breen has been brought on to pen the script, while Joss Whedon, who created the series, is set to be an executive producer on the project.

The publication reports that he has been working with Breen on the script, with as-yet-unknown black actress taking over the role made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The series ran for seven seasons on The WB, which later became the CW, and on UPN. It continued on in comic book form after the final episode in 2003.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was based on the movie of the same name, which was also originally written by Whedon.

The cult favourite TV show is the latest series to get the reboot treatment, following Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the CW’s Charmed.
