Chad Michael Murray has finally made his Riverdale debut and it was beyond creepy

One Tree Hill and Riverdale have a lot in common.

Both are beloved TV series. Both aired on the same network. Both focus on the dramatic lives of a core group of teenagers (although Riverdale is a lot more dramatic).

And now, both of them have Chad Michael Murray.

It was announced earlier this year that the actor – who played Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill would be joining Riverdale’s third series as the leader of The Farm, Edgar Evernever.

Throughout the season, Edgar has proven himself to be a particularly influential character. He’s got Alice Cooper completely brainwashed (she donated all of Betty’s money to The Farm) and his power in the town only seems to be growing.

And in this week’s episode (Riverdale’s second musical one, where they all performed Heathers), Edgar finally made his on-screen debut.

Naturally, it was just as eerie (and as much of a scene-stealer) as you would expect.

Following the final performance, Edgar stood up – doing that sinister slow-clap that basically all villains seem to have perfected – before a huge portion of the audience, all dressed in white, stood up and did the same.

And now that he’s made his suitably dramatic Riverdale debut, the actor spoke to Cosmopolitan about what fans can expect from the rest of the season – and why he was so keen to be a part of the show.

Teasing what fans can expect from the enigmatic cult leader, he explained:

“[The rest of the season is] going to be a wild ride. Strap on your seatbelt.

“Edgar is a unique character. I think there are so many layers to peel back , so it’s a very slow burn on really discovering who this man is, what his background is, and where he comes from.

“It’s been fun for me to see where he’s going, what he wants, and what his quest is all about. Beyond that, I can’t say much. He’s the leader of the Farm. The Farm very much believes in Edgar and their cause.

“It’s an interesting entrance for a character that we’ve been waiting so long to finally meet.

“I think you see his power in a very simple moment. When you show power, instead of just explain power, it’s much more powerful.

“You see that in that moment. You see what Edgar appreciates about the performance, and then you see the Farm join him. You see the power he has over everybody and that he’s taking Riverdale by storm.”

He said that he had always been “intrigued” by the Archie Comics universe – particularly due to its “historic” nature.

He continued:

“I’ve always been intrigued by the Riverdale universe just because, obviously it’s historic, with all the years of the comics, and now it’s this newfound super fandom.

“My wife is a huge fan. She watched all of season one—she binge watched it in like a week —and when it came down the pipe, I was fascinated by it. It was an opportunity to go play and work with a good group of people.”
