Chad Michael Murray will play Ted Bundy in new film

It’s not the only film about the convicted murderer coming out soon.

Chad Michael Murray has been cast to play the serial killer Ted Bundy in a new true crime film.

The movie, titled Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman, will see the One Tree Hill actor portray the man who killed at least 30 women and girls in America throughout the ’70s.

This film, which comes out on 16 August, will focus primarily on one of the detectives and FBI profilers who was involved in tracking and catching Bundy.

Joining Chad Michael Murray in the cast is scream queen Lin Shaye and Teen Wolf star Holland Roden.

American Boogeyman isn’t the only upcoming film to explore the convicted murderer. Earlier this month, the trailer for another film about Ted Bundy, No Man of God, was released.

No Man of God will see Elijah Wood play FBI analyst Bill Hagmaier while The Good Fight star Luke Kirby will play the serial killer.

Over the years, Ted Bundy has seen many representations on film and TV.

In 2019, Zac Efron portrayed Bundy in Joe Berlinger’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile to mixed reviews. Berlinger also directed the docu-series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

While true crime has become an increasingly popular genre over the last 10 years, many felt that Ted Bundy’s story has already been adequately told.

Others felt that media representations of Ted Bundy often glamorise the killer, while failing to do his victims justice.

Some social media users took to Twitter to express their dismay.

One person wrote: “these were real girls and women who’s lives were taken by a vile man but sure, keep making these ted bundy movies and forcing these victims families to relive the trauma of what happened to their loved ones.”

Another shared that they were “sick” of Ted Bundy films. They wrote: “Name one good reason why Hollywood constantly throws him in our faces without any respect to the families off the victims.”
