Watching Christmas movies is good for your health- here’s how

Kat O'Connor

Watching a Christmas movie is actually good for you!

The holidays are getting closer. If like us you’ve already been watching cozy Christmas movies on Netflix then we’ve got good news for you.

According to science, watching Christmas films is actually good for your health.

That’s right, tuning into Elf or sobbing over It’s a Wonderful Life can boost your well-being.

Christmas movies boost our happy hormone- dopamine. These movies trigger that hormone that can leave us feeling happier and lighter.

“It does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness,” a psychologist has revealed.

“I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out … signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not,” they shared.

Not only do they make you happier, but they also reduce stress levels and anxiety.

It makes a lot of sense though. Christmas movies are charming, merry, and full of joy.

We’d happily watch Christmas movies all year round, but saving them for the holidays really does cheer you up.

It also gives you something to look forward to when the evenings are cold and dark. Curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and The Holiday playing on the TV never fails to make us feel joyous.

A whole host of new Christmas movies are set to land on Netflix over the coming weeks so we’ll be sorted for Christmas movie nights indefinitely.
