Coronation Street has confirmed a heartbreaking storyline for Maria Connor.

Upcoming scenes will see the hairdresser, who is pregnant with Gary Windass' baby, rushed to the hospital after suffering a dizzy spell. Ali Neeson rushes Maria to the hospital where she's given the devastating news that she's lost the baby. Quizzing Maria about her symptoms, Ali realises that she has measles. The doctor confirms that this is the likely cause of her miscarriage. Elsewhere in the cobbles, baby Bertie is rushed to the hospital with measles. According to The Sun, his father Daniel Osbourne will confide in Peter Barlow - admitting that he never took the young boy in for the rest of vaccinations, since he couldn't stand to see him in pain. Gary is left heartbroken when he returns from Bristol and Maria tells him the news about the baby - and Audrey tells him that Bertie is in hospital with the measles. Later on, Gary  runs into Daniel - blaming him for Maria losing the baby. Will the loan shark seek his revenge?

Samia Longchambon recently teased that Maria may come to regret her relationship with Gary.

"She's very trusting, which you'd think she'd have learnt by now, and she's naive. And I think she just wants to be loved," she told Lorraine earlier this month. "She wants that family unit that she's never had, really.

"I think that's part of the reason why, when Gary... sort of confessed – not everything, but enough to make her question the relationship – ordinarily I think if she wasn't pregnant with his baby, she'd have absolutely said, 'That's it, I'm not having anything to do with you'.

"But because she's pregnant and she doesn't want to bring up the baby on her own like last time, that's why she's sort of overlooking it."

"You just know it's not going to [end well]," she added.
