Coronation Street’s Michelle Connor in for ‘roller coaster’ few months ahead of exit

Keeley Ryan

New details have been revealed.

Coronation Street fans were left stunned this week when it was announced Kym Marsh was leaving the soap.

The actress first appeared on Corrie in a cameo role, playing Michelle Connor, back in 2006. Her popularity with viewers landed her a permanent role on the soap.

Kym confirmed the news this week in a statement, which said:

“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes on Coronation Street, I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here thirteen years later

“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to take a break from the show and explore some other roles.

“But this isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor, she’ll be back! I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.”

It is not clear when her final episode will air, although it is expected to be later this year. And, based off of new reports, Michelle is going to be in for a roller coaster few months.

The Sun report that Coronation Street bosses are “packing” Kym’s scripts, and there’s going to be some particularly heartbreaking moments for Michelle.

Next week, Michelle is set to tell her partner Robert that she may be pregnant – however, an insider told the publication she will actually find out she isn’t expecting.

This will end up causing some tensions with Robert, who wants to become a father – and, eventually, to the couple breaking up.

“So she’s not got a breeze to the finish line,” the source added.

Following the news of her departure, the Coronation Street fan favourite was praised by the soap’s executive producer praising her for bringing “incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories.”

Following the news of Kym’s departure, executive producer John Winston told The Sun:

“Kym has done a fantastic job.

“She has brought incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories.

“We will be really sad to lose her when she goes but totally understand that, after dedicating herself to the show for so long she now fancies trying something else.”

An insider told the publication that Kym was “ready for a new challenge” after her time on Coronation Street.

They said:

“Kym has loved her time on Corrie and has lifelong friends on set, but she is ready for a new challenge.

“She loves the role of Michelle and she told bosses she hoped they would agree to keep the door open in the future. They have done — so everyone is leaving on great terms.

“The writers will want the character to go out with a bang.”
