Corrie’s Jack P. Shepherd on the tragic twist for David and Shona

Keeley Ryan

Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd has opened up about the tragic twist in David and Shona’s story.

Shona got shot in the stomach on Christmas Day, after she got caught in the crossfire when Derek was trying to get revenge on Gary.

And while she initially seemed fine at first, her health took a turn for the worse –  and Shona fell into a coma.

After further complications during her surgery, the doctors told David that his wife may not recover from her injuries.

Shepherd spoke to Digital Spy about the heartbreaking plotline, and what’s going to be next for the characters.

“He’s been through so much. There’s a lot of anger and frustration, then there are moments when he does lose it and break down,” he explained, discussing David’s emotions after Shona was shot.

“At first he’s angry with Gary. If Gary hadn’t had a spat with this Derek, he wouldn’t have brought him to the street in the first place and Shona wouldn’t have got shot.

“But then he has bigger things to focus on than Gary. He just needs to be there every day for Shona, not wasting time going after Gary Windass. Because if he misses something, if she wakes up and he’s not there, he’ll feel like he has let her down.”

He added that he thinks David will keep fighting for Shona, despite what the doctors say.

“David’s being told it’s not likely she’ll make a full recovery. They don’t even know when or if she’ll wake up and if she does, she’ll probably be in a very bad way,” he explained, adding that David is “not accepting” what the doctors have told him.

“He’s just married her and he reminds everyone that was for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, and he’ll stick by that no matter what. She’s his wife and if she never wakes up again, he’ll still be by her side,” he added.
