Great news martial arts fans, a prequel to the Chinese movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is in the works.
The original 2000 movie won four Oscars, including best foreign film, launching the career of director Ang Lee, however it's said that he isn’t returning for the prequel.
Film Auckland's deputy chairman Alex Lee said that the new movie was a major coup for New Zealand.
"Over the last 18 months it's been very quiet and it's nice we're finally getting traction," he told Radio New Zealand.
"It's a production that will require a vast number of resources, facilities, technicians and crew”.
The country is no stranger to blockbuster movie shoots and previously provided scenery for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, as well as the Chronicles of Narnia.
Titled, the Green Destiny, Variety reports that actress Michelle Yeoh will be reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien in the new movie. No further details relating to casting or direction have been revealed.
