Derry Girls writer wants to turn the series into a MOVIE and we’re all for it

Yes, yes, yes.

Derry Girls is set to return to our screens next week and we couldn’t be any more excited.

The show follows a group of teenagers as they try to navigate their way through life, growing up during the Troubles in Derry. In a sort of “five friends against the world” storyline, the show is full of emotion and one which captivated audiences when it launched in January of last year.

And now, ahead of series two being released on Channel 4, it looks like the show’s writer, Lisa McGee has bigger plans in store.

When asked at a BAFTA screening if a movie is potentially on the cards, Lisa expressed her hopes.

“I would love to… I think!

“The 90-minute thing sort of terrifies me, but I’m sure if I could find a structure and a story that worked, yeah, I’d love to give it a crack.”

We need this to happen.

Season two brings 12 episodes to the channel over the next 12 weeks and a season three is already rumoured to be in the works, with Lisa adding that the show has “more story in it, definitely.”

The. Excitement.

Derry Girls returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday, March 5 at 9.15pm.
