“Divergent” Sequel “Allegiant” Will Be Split Into Two Films, No Shocked Faces Anywhere

Well, we never saw this coming.

As is the case with most young adult films these days, the people behind Divergent have announced that the sequel to the movie that has done massively well at the box office will be split into two parts.

According to Slash Film, this brings the amount of films in the Divergent series to four.

Although the film only opened earlier this month, a sequel was announced while the film was still on screens.

Now, Allegiant Part 1 will take the March 18, 2016 while Allegiant Part 2 will follow on March 24, 2017. This will not affect the next film in the series, Insurgent, which will open on March 20, 2015.

Lionsgate co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger stated. “The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we’re tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise.”

Good news for Divergent fans, maybe not anyone else…
