Eastenders is set to make TV history by becoming the first soap to cast a transgender character for a reoccurring role.

Riley Carter Millington, 21, is set to join the cast playing transgender character, Kyle.

Not much is known about Kyle but viewers will get a first glimpse of him before the end of the month.

EastEnders is Millington’s first acting role, and he said: “I am extremely excited to be joining EastEnders. I can honestly say that I have now fulfilled my two biggest dreams – to be living my life as a man and to be an actor.

“I cannot wait to really get stuck in with filming and I look forward to seeing what is in store for my character.”

EastEnders’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said the soap has “always led the way in changing audience’s perceptions about ‘difference’.
