EastEnders‘ Peter Beale is going to be coming back with a new actor playing the role.

Dayle Hudson will become the seventh actor to play the part, when the character returns to telly screens in 2020.

Executive produce Jon Sen confirmed the recasting on Wednesday [via RTÉ].

“As soon as I met Dayle, I knew he’d be the one to bring Peter Beale back to Walford,” he said in a statement. “Peter’s a young man with a big heart but a bruised soul and Dayle’s a talented actor who captures his complexity perfectly. I welcome him to the company and can’t wait to start working with him.”

Peter has spent the last few years living in New Zealand, after it emerged his little brother Bobby had killed his sister Lucy accidentally.

And Hudson said that he “can’t wait to find out” what the character has been up to since leaving Albert Square.

“I am really grateful and excited to have the opportunity to work on such an institution of British television, alongside some incredible actors,” Hudson said.

“Peter has been away for some time so I can’t wait to find out what he’s been up to and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for him.”

Peter was last played by Ben Hardy. He left the soap back in 2015.
