Emily Ratajkowski: ‘My boobs are preventing me from getting jobs’

The actress says her body is constantly critiqued.

It’s nothing new to hear female celebrities’ bodies shamelessly scrutinised in the name of ‘cast specification’.

Yes, we’re well accustomed to seeing headlines pointing out the apparent ‘weight gain’ of those in the public eye. Similarly we’re used to seeing skin-crawling phrases like ‘ample assets’ and ‘pert derriere’ used to describe women with a lot more to offer than just their figures.

It’s a world that unfortunately too many have become accustomed too and it seems it’s having a major impact on these female celebrities’ career prospects.

Emily Ratajkowski has recently revealed that her breast size is preventing her from getting the acting roles she wants.

The proud feminist says she been subjected to comments on her cup size in auditions that leads her to believe that they are keeping her from getting hired for jobs.

“There’s this thing that happens to me: ‘Oh, she’s too sexy’,” she told Harper’s Bazaar Australia.

“It’s like an anti-woman thing, that people don’t want to work with me because my boobs are too big.

“What’s wrong with boobs? They’re a beautiful feminine thing that needs to be celebrated.

“Who cares? They are great big, they are great small. Why should that be an issue?”

Emily was widely judged and criticised for her role in Robin Thicke’s 2013 Blurred Lines music video where she appeared topless, however the 26-year-old defended her decision calling it an ‘expression of female sexuality’.

“We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn’t mean we have to be shamed for them or our sexuality,” she said on Twitter.

“Even if being sexualised by society’s gaze is demeaning, there must be a space where women can still be sexual when they choose to be.”

While many onlookers have judged Emily’s recent comments, belittling her upset about how her apparently ‘perfect’ body has impacted her, others have shown support for the model and actress.

In the same way we would be up-in-arms if an actress was rejected for a role over her weight, we should be angered that Ratajkowski’s cup size is doing the same.
