The third and final season of the Channel 4 series is set to air on April 12, but that might not be the last time we see them on our screens.

Speaking at the premiere of the final season this week, Lisa McGee, creator of the show was asked about the possibility of Derry Girls movie, something she has hinted at in the past.

She said: “Who knows what could happen in the Derry Girls universe.”

“It’s been six years of my life, and I’ve loved it, it’s been very good to me, but we are very tired and need a holiday. This has been like saying goodbye, but it’s not often you get to do exactly what you wanted to do.”

Last year, Lisa confirmed that the third season would be the last, but didn't rule out a film.

Once again speaking about her hopes to make a movie out of the series, she said it is something she'd "love to do."

Teasing fans that the show could make it to the big screen, Lisa said: "Who knows if Erin, Clare Orla, Michelle and James will return in some other guise someday? But for now, this is it for us, and we're excited to start filming the series with our incredible cast and crew to hopefully take our loyal fans on one last adventure."

And speaking to the BBC as she accepted her honorary doctorate from Queens University, she was adamant that a film could be in the future.

She said: "There might be...I'd love to do...perhaps a movie of Derry Girls and then I have a few other projects but they're very early days at the minute. I hope so. I haven't even thought about it (Derry Girls film) yet.

"We've always known that we wanted to do three series and all the actors kind of knew that as well. We've known this was coming but I think we've become like family ourselves, the cast and the crew so it'll be sad when we wrap that last day."

That's at least three times she's mentioned it as a possibility, so the chances don't look too shabby.
