“Can anyone in Dáil Éireann understand what it means not to have enough money to feed their children?”
Generation F’d airs on RTE2 tonight as the three-part series aims to examine what it's like for anyone that's 25-35 years old in Ireland, who are struggling to get a secure foothold in their adult lives and whose future prospects look bleak.
Told over the course of a few months and featuring young people from Cavan, Louth, Meath, Dublin and Westmeath, the lives of these participants will be intercut across the series with expert commentary to reveal the story of being young and a financially f**ed in Ireland.
A lack of job security and pensionable jobs, huge levels of personal and mortgage debt – if they are even allowed to borrow – are just some of the generational challenges they face.
The long-term impact of the 2008 crash is being profoundly felt by this group, known as ‘Generation Y’, a cohort impacted by high rates of unemployment, emigration and associated mental health issues. Despite the ‘recovery’, last year alone saw 35,000 young people emigrating – three times the pre-recession levels.
Generation
