The first official trailer for Artemis Fowl has been released

We can’t wait for this.

Disney has released the first look at the highly-anticipated big-screen adaptation of Artemis Fowl.

Based on the beloved book of the same name by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl – a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds.

He finds himself locked in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

It was announced last year that Kilkenny native Ferdia Shaw will be taking on the role of Artemis.

More than 1,200 people tried out for the role, with the 12-year-old ultimately being picked by film bosses.

Josh Gad will be taking on the role of Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies—and himself; while Judi Dench will play Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force (LEPrecon).

Meanwhile, Lara McDonnell features Captain Holly Short, the elf hero; and Game of Thrones’ Nonso Anozie will play Butler, Artemis’ bodyguard.

Kenneth Branagh directed the film. He also produced it alongside Judy Hofflund with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive  producers.

The screenplay is by Conor McPherson.

Disney’s Artemis Fowl arrives in Irish Cinemas on August 9, 2019
