Four Game of Thrones spin-off shows are in the works

Paul Moore

Winter is here and it’s staying!

Getting information about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones is harder than The Mountain wielding Valyrian steel, but if you’re still weeping that we’ve only got two more seasons in Westeros, this news should cheer you up.

As reported by Deadline, HBO has just signed deals with four writers to join George R.R. Martin in the development and writing of four separate Game of Thrones spin-offs.

While the network hasn’t confirmed if the new shows will be prequels, sequels, or companion series to GOT, we do know that each series will “explore different time periods of George R. R. Martin’s vast and rich universe” from the superb A Song of Ice and Fire series.

The bad news is that current GOT creators/showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff will not be associated with the new TV shows, but we do have the list of confirmed writers.

Can we get a HELL YEAH that the writer of Man on Fire and LA Confidential, Brian Helgeland, is writing a new series in Westeros.

If he doesn’t get something to do with the Targareyns then we’re going to riot!

Here are the writers that will be developing the new projects:

Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island)

Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman and X-Men franchises), George R. R. Martin

Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, A Knights Tale)

Carly Wray (AMC’s Mad Man),

George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones)

As of yet, no official premiere date/schedule has been announced and as with any TV show, the network will have final say over the final draft of any script.

Still though, four shows that will be set in the same universe as Game of Thrones.

Valar Morghulis indeed!
