Get excited because it looks like a Step Brothers sequel could be on the way

Paul Moore

It’s the f**king Catalina Wine Mixer. Amazing!

There’s only one acceptable reaction to the news that a Step Brothers sequel could be on the way. Holy Santa Claus shit!

Since being released 10 years ago – we know, we almost feel as old as Robert and his liver-spotted hands that he has to keep off Brennan’s beautiful mother – Adam McKay’s film has become one of – if not THE – most beloved comedy in recent memory.

In fact, McKay agrees with that thinking because in a recent interview with CinemaBlend the director of The Big Short and The Other Guys was very optimistic about another Step Brothers film.

“It is very possible in five years, because I don’t think the Step Brothers idea gets worse the older these guys get. We could all look at each other and go, ‘all right, let’s go do it.’ A while ago I said, ‘No way we’re doing it.’ But I thought about it. I was like, ‘Why am I saying that? We definitely could end up doing that.’ So who knows?,” he said.

In a previous interview with the New York Daily News, Will Ferrell said that ideas for a sequel were already being discussed.

“We talked about Step Brothers and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things. We had a whole story where John (C. Reilly) and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well,” he said.

To be honest, this would perfectly fit into Dale’s entitled worldview because after all, he does live in “a house of learned doctors”.

This being said, Ferrell was somewhat coy about the idea of Step Brothers 2. “The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny.”

He adds: “The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.”

Well, Will Ferrell and John C.Reilly will be reuniting in their upcoming film about Sherlock Holmes, but we’d love to see Nighthawk and Dragon back together again.

As for McKay, he’s got a film about Dick Cheney in post-production and a new show on HBO.
