During filming for the Late Late Show in London last night, Cordon said that he and Jones were pretty much sick with nerves over the special.
"This is it now, we go on another break and I'm going to start this on Monday morning – this new Gavin and Stacey Special," he said.
“Or as me and Ruth Jones say 'We start this new Gavin and *throws up* - just out of nerves."
The sitcom starring Mathew Horne and Joanna Page has been off the air for eight years following three series and one Christmas special.
Cordon said that he and Jones had been considering returning to the characters for quite some time.
“Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like," he said. "And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special."
"We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.
"We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.”
