Tommy Tiernan’s interview with Michael Healy-Rae went down very well with viewers last night.
The Kerry politician joined Tommy on his show to chat openly and honestly about his viewers on topics such as religion, drink driving and mental health.
The format of The Tommy Tiernan Show is quite different to other chat shows because Tommy is unaware of who is going to interview and therefore has no questions of preparations done. This type of set up means it could either be a disaster.
Thankfully, Michael was a hit with the audience, as were Tommy’s questions.
I confess I wasn’t expecting Michael Healy-Rae to talk so sensitively and decently about suicide and about issues regarding mental health. No buck-lepping, no leprechaunery. Just kindness. I guess that says more about me than about him. #TommyTiernan

Michael Healy Rae might have views and hobbies that we may not like, but there is integrity, decency and intelligence there. #TommyTiernan

Michael Harding speaking about depression to Tommy Tiernan on #TommyTiernan is bloody profound

That may have been the best talk show I’ve seen in 20 years or more, rounded off by a stunning performance from Lola. Proofing that u don’t need A list celebrities, just normal decent people. #tommytiernan

Tommy’s greatest asset as an interviewer is his ability to listen intently to his guest. #tommytiernan

Must say Tommy Tiernan has gone up an awful lot in my estimation. He’s showing more depth and sensitivity than I ever thought he had. #tommytiernan

Whether you agree with Michael Harding or not. Isn’t absolutely bloody refreshing seeing two men openly talk about mental health without any judgement. #TommyTiernan
