Well hellooooooo Doctor!

The hearts of TV viewers across the world were broken when the last series of Grey’s Anatomy broke up one of the show’s most iconic couples… forever.

Dr McDreamy, aka Derek Shepherd, was the victim of a car crash that sent him to the great surgery ward in the sky.

As well as being part of the show’s central storylines with Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo), actor Patrick Dempsey provided some much appreciated eye candy for the programme’s loyal fans.

Now, it appears that show creator Shonda Rhimes is wasting no time on finding a new doctor for viewers to fall in love with.

E! News has confirmed that Martin Henderson is set to join the ABC medical drama as a series regular in the upcoming twelfth season. He will be playing a surgeon.

The 40-year-old Kiwi has appeared in The Red Road, Secrets and Lies and Off the Map. For a stint in 1996 he joined the cast of Home and Away for a multi-episode arc as Geoff Thomas.

We’ll also be seeing a lot more of a familiar face next season, as Jason George – who plays Bailey’s husband Ben on the show – has been promoted to series regular.

Grey’s Anatomy will return in late September.
