Grey’s Anatomy will be ‘sexier’ when it returns in 2020

Grey’s Anatomy will be “sexier” when it returns in 2020, according to show runner Krista Vernoff.

The long-running medical drama recently aired its mid-season finale, which was jam-packed with drama.

And with a bit of a wait to go until the new episodes hit telly screens, Krista Vernoff has revealed what fans can expect when Grey’s does return.

Namely, that it’s going to be a “sexier” show.

Grey’s Anatomy will be returning to its original timeslot of 9pm, where it aired for eight seasons until it moved to 8pm in 2014.

“There are different rules for a 9 PM show than there are for an 8 PM show, and we hope to take advantage of those rules,” Vernoff told Deadline about the change. “Grey’s was definitely allowed to be a sexier show when it was on at 9 o’clock. So we are excited by the change back to our original (Thursday) time slot.”

Vernoff is also showruner on the Grey’s companion series, Station 19 – and weighed in on the changes the firefighter drama will see this season.

“It’s messier visually, and it’s messier emotionally than it’s ever been,” she said. “It was an exciting thing for me to dive into the world of firefighters; it’s very different from the world of surgeons, and to educate myself and talk to these heroes who run towards a fire.”

“I kept coming back to this image of sweat and soot and feeling like that needed to be a thing on this show, that it needed to feel grittier in all ways,” she continued. “The friendships are really more complicated this season. People are a little less polite this season, a little less kind, a little more competitive and dirtier, literally and metaphorically.”
