Season two cannot come soon enough.

From Big Little Lies to The Handmaid’s Tale, we’ve been spoiled for choice when it comes to high-quality television this year.

Well, the latter had us hooked from beginning to end, and we’ve been left with some serious separation anxiety ever since.

A second season has been greenlighted and here’s what we know so far.

Plot

The first season was all based on Margaret Atwood’s original novel. However, with no more source material to work from, what happens next?

Well, Atwood has revealed that she will be heavily involved in the production of season two, as she and the rest of the writing team come up with new ways to keep us all hooked.

However, there are some parts of the book that were not covered in the first season of the show, which might mean they could make an appearance in season two.

One thing we know for certain is that things are going to get a lot darker for those living under Gilead.

“Season two is going to be bad too, really dark – it’s going to get worse,” Offred herself, Elisabeth Moss told The Pool.

Who will be returning?

Well, obviously the main woman herself will be back, along with some of our other favourite characters.

Alexis Bledel will also be returning, as well as fan-favourite and Gilead-escapee Samira Wiley.

And despite a fairly grim end to the season, Madeline Brewer who plays Janine will also be back for season two.

We’re also set to be introduced to Offred’s mother, however, we don’t know who will play her as of yet.

When will it be returning to our screens?

The question we all want the answer to. Well, while an exact date has not been given, it has been confirmed that it will be 2018 before we pick up with the Gilead again.

While some reports suggest it will premiere on Hulu in April of next year, it will be a short time later before it comes across the pond to Channel 4.

Bonus information

The second instalment will be getting longer as well. The first season came to a close after 10 nail-biting episodes.

However, season two will gift us with 13.
