Harry Potter star has been named the most influential celebrity

Go on the gals.

Jade Hayden

Emma Watson

Not Daniel Radcliffe, not Rupert Grint, not Maggie Smith…

But none other than Emma Watson has been named the most influential celebrity for young teenagers.

The news comes after a poll conducted in the UK showed that both boys and girls saw the actress as the most influential celebrity in their lives.

Even more so than Beyonce, Zayn Malik, Cheryl Cole, Ariana Grande, and a host of YouTubers.

Over 1,000 teenagers took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) survey, which saw researchers ask what kind of factors teens look for in a role model.

29 percent of teenage girls said they liked the “feminist” label, with 10 percent saying they were influenced by people who were “sporty.”

One respondent of the poll said that they found Watson’s feminism inspiring.

“She’s a big feminist. She frequently speaks out on sexism and other discrimination issues such as racism and homophobia, and what she says really inspires me.”

Another said that they appreciated Watson using her platform and celebrity status to do good.

“She uses the power and fame she gained from the Harry Potter series to speak about important issues like feminism.”

Watson wasted no time expressing her feminism following the success of her role as Hermione Granger.

Over the past few years, she has been the face of the He For She campaign for gender equality, shut down those who slut-shamed her for a photoshoot, and regularly promoted books and documentaries about feminism and diversity.

Marketing director of the survey, Natasha Kizzie said that the ‘Emma Watson effect’ has certainly taken hold of today’s youth.

“The rise of internet feminism and increasingly politically engaged youth has brought these issues to the forefront of the news agenda, and the ‘Emma Watson effect’ has done brilliant things for the cause.

She inspires young people to never limit their expectations of what they can achieve on the basis on their gender.”
