Heartbreaking: the on-screen tribute Kym Marsh paid to her late son, Archie

Gillian Fitzpatrick

She tragically lost her own son, Archie, more than 21 weeks into her pregnancy eight years ago.

And it was a heartache that Kym Marsh then famously depicted on-screen earlier this year – when her Coronation Street character Michelle Connor gave birth prematurely to a son, Ruairi.

Now the 40-year-old actress has revealed that she wanted to pay tribute to her late child – with the touching use of a very significant piece of jewellery.

During an acceptance speech at an awards ceremony earlier this week, Ms Marsh explained: “The chain I’m wearing now is the chain you saw Michelle wrap around Ruairi’s wrist, but my children bought me this for Mother’s Day last year to represent Archie.

“It’s the exact same chain, so that was a really poignant moment for me. I’ve worn this as Michelle since my children gave it to me, so it was a coincidence really in a sense that they wanted Michelle to wrap it around the wrist of the baby.”

Earlier this year, Kym spoke out, explaining how not getting a birth-cert for Archie was devastating. She also said that the term ‘late miscarriage’ bothered her.

”It really annoyed me and it angered me. I had just given birth to a baby. I didn’t miscarry my baby, I gave birth to him, and why is there no birth certificate?” she said.

“The clue is in the name, ‘birth certificate’. So why? Because he didn’t survive? Because he wasn’t ‘viable’? What is that? When I’m not here anymore, no-one will know that my baby existed.

“And that’s the thing that upsets a lot of women, where you can’t have a birth certificate,” she furthermore told Digital Spy.
