It seems Ed truly needed to look out for himself around then.

Last night on the Jonathan Ross show the 26-year-old singer-songwriter explained how he very much needed to get away and be free of substance abuse. He said the pressures of fame became too much and that he wouldn’t be sober when he needed to be.

“I didn’t really notice it was happening. It just started gradually happening, and then some people took me to one side and were like, ‘Calm yourself down.’”

“It’s all fun to begin with, it all starts off as a party and then you’re doing it on your own and it’s not, so that was a wake-up call and taking a year off.”

The singer also told Jonathan that his music was suffering when he was “under the influence” and he couldn’t perform as he would have wanted to either.

Oh Ed, we’re glad you took a break however hard it was for the rest of us! It goes to show we all need to put our feet up and just take some time out now and again.
