Here’s what will happen in Bridgerton season 2 – if Netflix goes by the books

Jade Hayden

Bridgerton was a hit.

This is a fact. And because of this fact, it is only right that we speculate about a possible season two and where the scandalous story is going to go next.

Although the show has yet to be officially renewed for a second season, given the immense success of its first, it would be surprising if Netflix didn’t decide to give viewers more shock, scandal, and sex a second time round.

But what exactly is going to happen in season two? Is there any way of knowing? Or will we simply need to sit back, relax, and wait for Shondaland to hit us with the goods in 2022, probably?

Well, it turns out that we may not have to. Bridgerton is based on a series of romance novels by Julia Quinn, each focusing largely on the love life of a different member of the Bridgerton family – and if producers decided to continue paying homage to the books, we may very well have a good idea of what’s going to befall high society next season. Delightful.

So, without further ado, here’s what’s probably going to happen in season two of everybody’s favourite period Netflix series.

There won’t be half as much Daphne and the Duke

Regé-Jean Page is The One, we know. But we also know that he most likely will not be the focus of Bridgerton season two. In fact, neither will Daphne.

The second book in the series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, actually focuses on Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. So while sister Daphne and the handsome Duke will no doubt be making many appearances in the show’s second season, their story likely won’t be the focus of the drama.

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, recently said: “Obviously, if we’re sticking to the books, it’s sort of Anthony’s turn now. But there’s no such thing as a happy ending, is there?

“I think love’s always shifting and changing. So who knows? I’d like to see what happens next. And also, I’d like to see Daphne get involved in Anthony’s love life, since he was so involved in hers.”

Anthony Bridgerton will be the star

As mentioned above, season two of Bridgerton will likely focus on Anthony, the eldest of the Bridgerton boys.

The Viscount Who Loved Me details Anthony’s quest to find a suitable bride, meaning that his relationship with Sienna Rosso is, as expected, completely done and dusted.

According to the novel’s blurb: “The season has opened for the year of 1814, and there is little reason to hope that we will see any noticeable change from 1813. The ranks of society are once again filled with Ambitious Mamas, whose only aim is to see their Darling Daughters married off to Determined Bachelors.

“Discussion amongst the Mamas fingers Lord Bridgerton as this year’s most eligible catch, and indeed, if the poor man’s hair looks ruffled and windblown, it is because he cannot go anywhere without some young miss batting her eyelashes with such vigor and speed as to create a breeze of hurricane force.”

There’ll be some new characters, Kate Sheffield being one of them

If the source material is anything to go by, Anthony will find himself fairly enraptured by a woman named Katherine Sheffield. The only problem is she doesn’t appear to be that into him.

So will commence a season of will-they-won’t-they frustrations as Anthony desperately tries to find himself a match, and Kate desperately tries to avoid the Viscount.

“And that is why, Dear Reader, This Author feels a match between Anthony Bridgerton and Miss Sheffield would be just the thing to enliven an otherwise ordinary season,” reads the blurb, or rather, Lady’s Whistledown’s papers.

Each of Quinn’s books in the series focuses on a different child of the Bridgerton family, Daphne being the first, Anthony the second, etc.

Chances are that Netflix may shake up the series somewhat as the seasons progress, but for now, here’s what the potential next eight seasons could look like in terms of focus.

And if that theory is totally off, here’s the list of books in order. Enjoy.

1. Daphne – “The Duke and I”

2. Anthony – “The Viscount Who Loved Me”

3. Benedict – “An Offer From a Gentleman”

4. Colin – “Romancing Mister Bridgerton”

5. Eloise –  “To Sir Phillip, With Love”

6. Francesca –  “When He Was Wicked”

7. Hyacinth – “It’s in His Kiss”

8. Gregory – “On the Way to the Wedding”
