How This Netflix Mobile App Update Will Save Your Data

Ellen Tannam

This is great news for those who watch the streaming service on their mobile devices.

As we all know, Netflix streaming can really eat into your data, but according to Pocket-lint, a new update coming from the app will help solve this issue.

Usually Netflix streams in HD by default, which can result in absolutely massive unwelcome data charges. The new update will intelligently limit the bitrate (aka quality) of the streaming levels. It will be a button that can be turned on and off, and Netflix says that this will limit quality to save data.

This will be pretty handy if you’re watching a show on the commute and are willing to sacrifice a bit of picture quality on the bus to finish a crucial episode, and it means you won’t get any nasty surprises when you get your phone bill every month.

They are also rumoured to be launching a second screen function, offering information about the actors appearing on our screens as you watch.
