Kin, the hugely popular RTÉ crime drama, may return for more seasons, according to one of the show's stars, Thommas Kane Byrne.
The eight-part series follows the Kinsellas, a Dublin crime family who reckon with the killing of one of their own. The show also stars Ciarán Hinds, Clare Dunne, Aidan Gillen and Marie Doyle Kennedy.
At a RTÉ roundtable event, Kane Byrne, who plays Francis 'Fudge' Flynn in the gangland series, said that Kin is going to "run and run and run".
The actor said: "I am sad, obviously I’d love to do season two or whatever. I know it sounds cliche, but I am just delighted for everyone involved and I hope it runs and runs and runs because it really is a good show."
He added: "I have a good feeling about it. I think there is going to be a legacy in a few years, and Kin will probably always follow me."
Kane Byrne's character Fudge was killed off by Glen, a member of the rival Cunningham clan in the drama last night.
While Kin has been popular with viewers, it has also attracted some criticism for its violent content.
Last month, Christy Burke, the former Lord Mayor of Dublin, criticised the national broadcaster for airing a show that he felt glamourised street violence.
On Drivetime, Councillor Burke said: "We see a young 17-year-old drinking while in the background another couple are snorting cocaine then the 17-year-old later gets shot in a drive-by shooting. There's families who have lost loved ones this way, the city is in the grip of drug dealing."
One of the show's actors, Sam Keeley, who plays Eric Kinsella, defended it, saying: "We make these shows and create art for people to judge and to scrutinise if that’s how they feel.
"I think it would be remiss of us as artists if we told these stories in a censored sort of way — where we didn’t show drug use and shootings and scraps in the street."
He added: "Unfortunately, because these are real stories that have affected people’s lives, these are integral parts of those stories."
