ITV to make documentary about Ghislaine Maxwell case

It will examine how the socialite allegedly became involved in sex trafficking.

ITV has commissioned a new documentary film about British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, the former partner of late disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

The documentary will include figures at the centre of the allegations of abuse surrounding the socialite, including  several alleged victims – many of whom are speaking out for the first time – as well as her siblings.

The 59-year-old is currently in a US jail. Her trial began on Monday and she has denied all charges against her, claiming she is innocent. Several applications for her bail have been denied.

Maxwell is accused of recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein to sexually abuse over the course of ten years, from 1994 to 2004. However, her defence team is set to argue that she was also a victim of Epstein’s.

The film will examine the trial and look at how Maxwell ended up being accused of involvement in the world of sex trafficking.

Provisionally titled Ghislaine, it will use archival footage as well as new interviews to tell the story. The broadcaster said it will be a “new and revealing insight into the case”.

The heiress recently spoke out about her experience in jail, calling it a “living hell”.

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, she said:

“I have been assaulted and abused for almost a year and a half.

“I have not had a nutritious meal in all that time. I haven’t slept without lights on – fluorescent lights that have damaged my eyes – or been allowed to sleep without constant interruptions.

“I am weak, I am frail. I have no stamina. I am tired. I don’t even have shoes which fit properly.

“They feed me rotten food. One apple had maggots in it. I have not been allowed to exercise.”

The film will air following the conclusion of Maxwell’s trial .
