Jared Leto’s most upsetting and brilliant film is on TV tonight if you need a good wail

requiem for a dream

Prepare to ruin your entire life.

It’s Monday and you know what that means! Plenty of time to dread the week ahead, abandon all of the meal preps you said you’d sort out, and generally just have a bit of an less-than-ideal time.

And what better way to spend the beginning of the week than bawling crying in front of the TV?

Can’t think of one tbh, which is very good news for us because Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream is on the telly tonight and we’re way overdue a good wail.

The film follows four drug users and their obsession with self medicating using everything from heroin to diet pills.

Sara Goldfarb, played by Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn, is a mother whose entire life revolves around infomercials, losing weight, and appearing on television.

Her son Harry (Jared Leto) spends his time concocting plans to fund his, his girlfriend Marian’s (Jennifer Connelly) and their friend’s (Marlon Wayans) drug habits, while also wandering the streets trying to push some of their own product.

As the movie’s plot unfolds, the four characters find themselves in various states of desperation, mental instability, and physical sickness, eventually arriving at an end point that will leave you wishing you never switched on the film in the first place.

… But in the best possible way.

Requiem For A Dream is on TG4 tonight at 9.30pm.
