Joe is ‘unhinged’ at the start of season two of You, Penn Badgley says

You season two

Penn Badgley has said that Joe is “unhinged” at the start of the second season of You.

The bookseller-turned-murderer was left shaken following the return of his ex-girlfriend Candace – who, lets be real, we all thought was dead…and clearly Joe did, too – at the end of season one.

Which means that Joe has a different kind of dilemma on his hands.

“In the first episode, he’s struggling to conceive of the fact that she’s alive,” he told Entertainment Weekly

“He’s unhinged because of how much he doesn’t understand about what he’s done and who she is.”

The actor also weighed in on two of season two’s new arrivals: Love and Forty Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti and James Scully).

Love, Joe’s new…well, love interest, is different from Guinevere Beck in a lot of different ways – something which, Badgley says, could be a massive for their relationship.

“Maybe what’s different about Joe this time is he actually has somebody who wants to be with him,” he continued, discussing Love. “Whereas in the first season he really does lure Beck in, in season 2, the tables have turned.”

And the actor added that Joe’s relationship with Forty, Love’s twin brother,  is “more substantial than the one with Love.”

“He has a male friend that he never had in the first season,” he continued. “He actually has a male counterpart, and for a while their relationship is more substantial than the one with Love.”

  • Season two of You lands on Netflix on December 26.
