John Carney has issued a public apology to Keira Knightley following his remarks about her acting

'i'm ashamed of myself'

In recent days, Irish director John Carney has come in for a lot of criticism after making some unflattering remarks about Keira Knightley in an interview.

“I don’t want to rubbish Keira, but you know it’s hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don’t think she’s ready for yet and I certainly don’t think she was ready for on that film.”

He was less than complimentary about the star, who was in his 2014 film Begin Again alongside Mark Ruffalo.

Today he has issued an apology on Twitter after contacting the actress personally to say sorry himself.

A very good and considered apology from the director.
