"Is your Lady Bird your given name?" "Yes, I gave it to myself."
We're taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Lady Bird, and boy are we excited.
Plot's it all about?
Could this finally be Saoirse's year? Having been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Atonement, and then Best Leading Actress in Brooklyn, the early word on Lady Bird has Ronan pegged for a front-runner as the winner at next year's Academy Awards.
Ronan plays Christine, aka 'Lady Bird', a young woman attempting to eek out an existence in Northern California, trying to get into a good college (or at least as good as one she figures she can get into), all the while constantly battling her mother (Metcalf), who unfortunately possesses too many of the same personality traits as her daughter for them to ever truly get on properly.
Indie darling Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha, Jackie, Mistress America) writes and directs alone for the first time, and she has nothing but incredible things to say about working with Ronan - "Her performance is mind-boggling — I can’t speak about her without becoming emotional. She transformed herself so fully that you don’t see the transformation because you can’t see the seams. [...] I came to her hotel room with the script and we sat on her couch and drank Cokes and read the entire script out loud. I read every other part and she read Lady Bird, and I knew by Page 2 that she was right. She just had this intensity of emotion and purpose and her intelligence was so in focus that it was instantly funny and heartbreaking. She played it differently than I’d always heard it in my head but so much better, which is always what you hope an actor does." (via LA Times) - so hopes are high that third time's a charm for Saoirse!
Starring: Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges and Timothee Chalamet
