This is how the latest Suits premiere referenced Meghan Markle’s exit

Before she was the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was a firm favourite among fans of the legal drama, Suits.

The 36-year-old starred as Rachel Zane for seven seasons, before making her exit in April this year (just weeks before she wed Prince Harry).

But just because she and co-star Patrick J. Adams may have left the show, it doesn’t mean they were forgotten about in the season 8 premiere.

In case you need a refresher: the end of season seven saw Rachel and Mike finally tie the knot after years of back-and-forth, before getting their happily ever after and driving into the sunset (or Seattle, Washington).

But even after their departure, the pair were still very much a part of the season 8 premiere – which kicked off on Wednesday night in the United States.

(This post contains spoilers beyond this point)

In one of the early scenes from the premiere, Donna and Rachel’s dad, Robert, are working on his new office at Zane Specter Litt law firm.

And that’s when Robert becomes distracted by Rachel’s empty office.

“I’m gonna miss her too,” Donna tells him, to which he responds:

“I’m not sure what’s worse, finding out Mike is a fraud or him taking my daughter away.”

Rachel and Mike even made a brief cameo in the premiere, as Donna brought out “a little welcome-to-the-firm present” that Rachel had left for her dad.

The two-part episode, which aired in late April, marked Meghan and Patrick J. Adams’ last appearance in the legal drama.

It also served as a way to introduce the new spin-off show, which will be led by Gina Torres.
