Our bodies are ready.

It’s been a while since a TV show has dropped on Netflix that had the power to enthral, entertain, and totally confuse us all at the same time.

Mindhunter made a good go of it but was ultimately too dull for anything of note to actually happen. The OA had the confusing part down but the entertainment was stunted ever-so-slight by the fact that we didn’t have a clue what was happening. Black Mirror is enthralling enough but they’re running out of ideas quickly and it shows.

This new show though. This new show looks good.

Based on the Norwegian TV series of the same name, Maniac will be dropping onto our Netflix screens next month and by the look of the trailer, it’s going to be an absolutely insane viewing experience.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill play two people struggling to function in the midst of a pharmaceutical trial that has apparently gone incredibly wrong, leaving them both unsure of what is real and what isn’t.

Stone’s character, Annie, is drawn to the trial due to questionable familial relationships, whereas Hill’s character, Owen, says that he wants to take part following a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Not a whole lot more than that has been revealed about the series so far,  but if the trailer is anything to go by there’s going to be mind bending sequences spanning multiple time periods, brains that don’t “work right,” and actually a bit of light hearted comedy too.

Oh, and True Detective executive Cary Joji Fukunaga is the guy behind the series – so you know it’s going to be good.

Maniac will be available to stream on Netflix on September 21.
