It looks extremely likely that Season 3 of You will go ahead

Paul Moore

It looks like we’re getting even more seasons.

It’s far from perfect, the dialogue is cheesy as hell, there are moments when you genuinely think that Dr. Drake Ramoray is going to show up and the plot rarely makes any sense.

However, You is a goddamn hit. Oh, you better believe that You is a hit.

Since arriving on Netflix, the Penn Badgley-led drama has found a massive audience, enthralled by its overt mix of melodrama, doomed romance, violence and mystery.

Well, with Season 2 set to be released on 26 December, it looks like the show – with Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble as creator and executive producer – will continue after its second season.

Deadline have reported that the production on Season 3 of You has received a tax credit from the state of California to finance the production. While nothing official has been confirmed, the news is very encouraging because securing a tax credit is a strong indicator that a TV show/film will be approved.

Essentially, it’s a financial commitment into a solid product that’s as close to a surefire hit as you’re going to get.

The synopsis for Season 2 states: “When we last saw Joe (Penn Badgley) his heart was tragically broken and his past just caught up with him in the form of long-lost ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers), a woman now hell-bent on teaching him a lesson. Season 2 finds Joe on the run from Candace, leaving New York City for his own personal hell: Los Angeles.

“He’s fresh out of an intense relationship that ended in murder. The last thing he expects is to meet an incredible new woman but he’s falling in love again — with a woman named Love. Is history repeating? Or will this time be the real thing? Joe’s just crazy enough to risk finding out.”

The show was originally shown in the US on Lifetime, with Netflix taking subscription-based video on demand rights.

For its second season, You moved to Netflix as its exclusive home.
