Better mark your calendars, because this is a production worth seeing.

Louise O’Neill’s Asking For It is returning to the stage this autumn for limited runs in Cork and Dublin.

The critically acclaimed play, based on the novel of the same name, will be back in Cork’s The Everyman Theatre and Dublin’s The Gaiety in September and October respectively.

The play received much praise following its debut last year where it broke box office records in Cork, eventually selling out Dublin’s The Abbey theatre.

Asking For It will return this autumn from September 26 – October 5 in Cork and from October 9 – 26 in Dublin.

This comes after the play won the Audience Choice Award at The Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards for 2018.

Author O’Neill said that the win pointed to the desperately needed conversation about consent that is finally happening in Ireland.

“It has been a great honour to see Asking For It brought to life with such energy, imagination, and innovation,” she said.

“To win the Audience Choice award is gratifying as this is a play that asks so much of the viewer – it demands that we bear witness to survivors’ stories, that we refuse to turn away and ignore the reality of the world in which we live.

“I hope Asking For It will continue to win the hearts of audiences all over Ireland, and start many more vital conversations about sexual violence in this country.”

Asking For It was adapted for the stage by Meadhbh McHugh and is directed by Annabelle Comyn.

The play stars Venetia Bowe, Dawn Bradfield, Sean Doyle, Kwaku Fortune, Liam Heslin, Aisling Kearns, Shane Lennon, Sile Maguire, Amy McElhatton, Tiernan Messitt-Green, Simon O’Gorman and Darragh Shannon.
