Love Island’s Gemma finally tells villa about dad Michael Owen on TV

The cat is out the bag.

One of the most eagerly anticipated moments in Love Island history happened on Thursday night – yes, Gemma Owen finally told the villa that her dad is Michael Owen.

The 19-year-old was arguably the biggest name on this year’s series when it was announced she would be entering the villa, thanks to her famous footballing father.

But so far she has resisted the urge to name-drop her dad in the villa.

Until now.

The moment came about thanks to one of the villa’s newest residents, Antigoni Buxton. Whilst they were getting ready in the dressing room, she asked Gemma: “Sorry, excuse me if I’m being ignorant, but is your dad like very very well-known? He played for England, right?”

Gemma replied “yeah” before revealing that she went to nursery with David Beckham’s sons, prompting a surprised reaction from Ekin-Su.

The exchange delighted viewers, who took to Twitter to voice their relief that after 20 episodes Gemma had finally made the revelation.

One fan wrote: “THEY ACTUALLY ADDRESSED MICHAEL OWEN AND GEMMA CONNECTION”

Another said: “Not them finally mentioning on TV that Gemma’s dad is famous they must not be allowed to mention his name.”

A third described it as the “best kept secret since Kylie Jenner hid her pregnancy.”

Whilst this is the first time Gemma has actually referenced her father in the villa, it turns out many of her fellow islanders apparently knew about her famous parentage weeks ago.

Ikenna Ekwonna recently told Love Island: After Sun: “You know what’s mad? We didn’t really know until like the second or third day, but I don’t think the girls knew that the guys knew.”

Michael Owen himself has managed to keep pretty quiet about his daughter being in the villa,, although he couldn’t help but post an emoji of a shocked face with hands covering its eyes when the show aired the famous heart rate challenge.
